AirAsia has denies media reports that the Asia's leading budget carrier or its long-haul affiliate AirAsia X is buying a Serbian airlines, local media reported Thursday.
AirAsia group Chief Executive Tony Fernandes said his company has no plan to buy JAT Airways, Serbia's national flag carrier.
"I can confirm that AirAsia will not be involved," Fernandes was quoted as saying by Business Times, a local media.
A local daily reported earlier that AirAsia may take over JAT Airways as part of a plan to locate its regional hub for flights to Asia in Belgrade, the Serbian capital.
AirAsia X chief executive Azran Osman Rani said the company routinely reviews invitations from airports to set up new route, " nothing special about this."
AirAsia X commercial director Senthil Balan said the long-haul budget carrier will remain focused on the Asia-Pacific region at the moment.
The report came after AirAsia secured the takeover bid of Batavia Air for further expansion in Indonesian market.
It also set up its ASEAN headquarter in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta.
