At least 9 people have died in different places of Nepal after suffering from viral fever in the first week of September.

At least 6 people died in Dailekh district, western part of Nepal and 3 died in Chitwan district, some 146 km west of Nepali capital Kathmandu.

Although the exact numbers are difficult to produce, the number of patients suffering from viral fever has increased in the past week, according to general physician at a local hospital Dr. Shiven Prasad Gupta.

"Viral fever is easily transmitted through regular contacts. In some homes, the entire members of the family are suffering from the viral fever," Dr. Gupta informed.

"Viral fever is caused by viral infections in the body. Although the symptoms of the fever may be generalized, it can affect different organs of the body in different people," he said.

He said that the environment status is one of the reasons for the viral fever. "Pollution and monsoon season are causing the viral to spread more," he said, adding that the patients in Kathmandu are mainly suffering from respiratory issues in their health during viral fever.

Dr. Gupta also recommended people to become aware of and practice good sanitation, wear masks and avoid contact with infected people.

"Children in schools are more exposed to the viral fever. Parents and teachers should make sure that they practice good habits such as washing hands, drinking safe water and playing in safer areas," he suggested.

The government of Nepal had also issued a notice recommending patients to visit the hospital when symptoms begin to show and not to take any medicines without consulting the doctors.
