The Nigerian government has said it is ready to assist Zimbabwe in conducting free, fair and acceptable elections.

Nigerian Vice-President Namadi Sambo made the pledge Tuesday when Zimbabwean Deputy Prime Minister Thokozani Kitupe visited him at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Nigeria is ready to support Zimbabwe through training its electoral officers from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Sambo added.

The Nigerian vice president said his country would continue to support sister African countries in entrenching democratic values for the general progress of the continent.

During the meeting, Sambo also briefed the visiting Zimbabwean deputy prime minister on the steps Nigeria is taking to reduce maternal mortality, boost power supply, improve transportation, education, agriculture and women's access to finance.
