Dozens of protesters were wounded in clashes with Yemeni security forces inside and around the US embassy in Yemen's capital Sanaa on Thursday, after hundreds of demonstrators stormed the embassy as part of widespread anger across the Muslim world over a film ridiculing Islam's Prophet Mohammad, witnesses said.

"The main building of the US embassy is still well protected with Yemeni and US security forces, but some protesters managed to climbed into the external walls of the embassy," a security official of the Yemenis Interior Ministry told Xinhua.

"The situation now is under control and the whole roads leading to the embassy were blocked," he said on condition of anonymity.

However, eyewitnesses at the scene said more reinforcement of the Yemeni security forces were sent to the building of the embassy as more angry protesters managed to breach the security blockades around the embassy.

"You Americans, stop insulting our Prophet," chanted dozens of protesters at the gate and on the walls of the US embassy, according to several eyewitnesses.

It was not clear if there was any injuries among the US diplomatic staff or whether if they were evacuated.

Protesters set fire to a number of diplomatic vehicle as well as part of the building as security forces used water cannons and warning shots in a bid to drive them out.
