The UN-Arab League joint special representative Lakhdar Brahimi had a candid and comprehensive discussion with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem about the Syrian crisis, Brahimi's spokesman said here Thursday.

Brahimi "expressed his own concern over the welfare of the Syrian people and said that in this mission his only masters were the Syrian people and their welfare and security were his priority, " Ahmad Fawzi told reporters in Damascus after the meeting of Moallem and Brahimi.

According to Fawzi, Brahimi told Moallem that the situation in Syria is serious and he would spare no effort to try to find a resolution to this crisis and to stop the suffering of the Syrian people.

He said Brahimi was pleased to hear from the foreign minister that "the Syrian government and the foreign minister were committed to ensuring the successes of his mission."

Meanwhile, the state-run SANA news agency said Moallem told Brahimi that the success of his mission relies on the seriousness of the countries that have appointed him to his mission and their truthfulness in helping Syria.

Brahimi arrived in Syria on a three-day visit Thursday to discuss with top Syrian officials the future of his mediation.
