At least ten people were killed and 22 others injured as a bomb hit a passenger van in Pakistan's northwest city of Peshawar on Wednesday afternoon, said hospital sources.

Officials with Lady Reading Hospital, the largest public hospital in Peshawar, told Xinhua reporters that they had received ten bodies and 22 injured people following the blast.

Some of the injured were in critical condition, they said, adding that emergency had been declared in hospital following the blast.

According to the local media reports and eyewitnesses, the blast took place at about 4:00 p.m. local time when a passenger van of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) was hit by a bomb fixed inside a vehicle parked on the Kohat Road in Peshawar city.

The PAF van was carrying its staff back home from office when it was hit by a bomb hidden inside a Suzuki Alto car parked the roadside, said local media.

There were an estimated 30 people on board when the van was hit by the blast, they said. However, there is no official confirmation about this from the PAF yet.

The blast, which badly damaged the PAF van, also caused serious damage to the nearby vehicles and shops.

At least six shops were reportedly damaged in the blast.

Bomb disposal squad said an estimated 100 to 150 kg of explosives were used in the bomb.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
