Israeli Ambassador to the United States Michael Oren made a quick visit to Israel on Sunday, ahead of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to the United States to participate in the UN General Assembly meeting later this month.

Oren, who will only stay in Israel for 36 hours, met on Sunday with Netanyahu to update him on the United States' stance regarding the Iranian nuclear program and his meeting with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton last week, the Ha'aretz daily reported.

Rumors of tensions between Israel and the United States have spiked since Clinton said during an interview early this month that the United States will not put "red lines" to Iran regarding its nuclear program, to which Netanyahu responded harshly.

"The world tells Israel 'wait, there's still time'. And I say, 'Wait for wait? Wait until when?' Those in the international community who refuse to put red lines before Iran don't have a moral right to place a red light before Israel," Netanyahu said.

The Israeli prime minister will travel to New York on Wednesday night and will give a speech at the UN General Assembly shortly after his arrival.

"I intend to reiterate the fact that the most dangerous country in the world cannot be allowed to arm itself with the most dangerous weapon in the world," Netanyahu said on Saturday, hinting that his speech will focus mainly on Iran and its nuclear race.
