Five people were wounded in a clash between opponent "red-shirt" and "yellow-shirt" groups here on Tuesday, local media INN news reported.

About 600 protesters of the two rival groups clashed outside the Crime Suppression Division office, and commuters were advised to avoid the area.

The rival protesters gathered after police summoned for questioning a female teacher who publicly defamed a key red-shirt supporter Darunee Kritbunyalai last month.

Darunee, 63, then filed a defamation suit against the woman.

The yellow-shirt came to give moral support for the female teacher.

The two sides confronted vociferously and threw bottles at each other, and a pickup truck of red-shirt supporters was badly damaged during the clash.
