The National Democratic Party (NDP), a newly formed political party in Ghana, said it is committed to reviving the ideology of former President Jerry John Rawlings, its Interim General Secretary said Wednesday.

Joseph Manboah Rockson told the media here, 38 km east of the Ghanaian capital, the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) of which Rawlings is the founder had abandoned its principles of probity, accountability, transparency and social justice.

"The NDC has abandoned the rules of probity, accountability and social justice which are the bedrock of its formation," Rockson stated.

He emphasized that the NDP had been formed to revive the ideology of the former Ghanaian president to improve on the living standard of the people.

Rockson said the former president had been a consistent politician on the African continent virtually preaching the same principles since he came into the political limelight some two decades ago.

The party, which received its official license to operate as a political party early this month, he emphasized, was still receiving nomination forms from aspirants from all over the country to contest for parliamentary seats in the general election.

The party, according to its Interim General Secretary, will go to congress on October 6.

The NDP is a break-away group formed by some disgruntled members from the ruling NDC ostensibly to project the ideology of Rawlings, which they believed the NDC had failed to live up to.

Following the demise of Mills on July 24 and the emergence of John Dramani Mahama as the country's new leader, Rawlings last Wednesday at a meeting with traditional authorities in the Volta Region (Province), 165 km east of Accra, emphasized that the ruling party was now in a position to win the election.
