Teen sex education

About 41 percent of Chinese teenagers said they learn about sex from the Internet, according to a survey released on "World Contraception Day," which fell on Wednesday.

The results show that social networking sites and Internet forums are teens' favorite online sources for information about sex, followed by books, magazines, friends and schools.

"There have been improvements in sexual education for teenagers, but not all students receive it and the accuracy of the information is not guaranteed," said Min Yuefu, an expert with the Beijing Academy of Educational Sciences.

The survey revealed that about 48 percent of some 180 million young Chinese citizens aged between 15 and 24 have had sexual experiences and only 49 percent used condoms during their first sexual experience.

Chongqing consulates

The overseas affairs commission of Southwest China's Chongqing People's Congress suggests the municipal government set up a zone for foreign consulates in the city, according to a report handed over to the standing committee of the congress Wednesday.

The move aims to polish the city's service and management of overseas affairs, said the report, adding that the city last year ranked highest among West China's provinces and regions with a foreign investment amount of $11.13 billion.

However, the report also mentions the shortcomings in serving the demand of overseas affairs in the municipality, noting that eight foreign consulates in Chongqing have rented offices on their own.
