Afghan and NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) during a joint operation eliminated a Taliban senior leader in the eastern Nangarhar province 120 km east of capital city Kabul on Thursday, an ISAF statement released here Friday said.

"Afghan and coalition forces killed a Taliban senior leader and strategist during a security operation in Khugyani district, Nangarhar province, Thursday," the statement added.

The statement identified the killed Taliban leader as Khan, saying no civilians were hurt during the operation.

However, Taliban militants fighting Afghan and NATO-led troops have yet to comment.
