A booby-trapped car went off near the police headquarters in the Syrian capital of Damascus late on Sunday, killing one person, injuring another seven and causing damages to nearby buildings, sources and media reports said.

The blast took place at Khaled Bin al-Walid street in al- Fahammeh area, where the police headquarters located.

Earlier, the state TV said the blast injured one person, while the pro-government Sham FM radio said the explosive-laden car went off near the headquarters.

The radio quoted the head of the police headquarters, Brigadier Ibrahim, as assuring that all the police staffers are fine.

Meantime, other local media outlet reported another blast by a sound bomb at Ruken Addien district in Damascus, with no reports on injuries.

The blasts are the latest in a series of endless circle of violence that has engulfed a number of areas across Syria.

The last major blast rocked the military command headquarters in Damascus two weeks ago and killed four army personnel.
