The China-based housing and architectural designing outfit, the Tianjin Yuyang Construction Company, has officially embarked on the building of a 5 billion naira (approximately 32 million US dollars) state-of- the-art Civic Center and museum in Ado-Ekiti, capital of Ekiti State in southwestern Nigeria.

Governor of Ekiti State Kayode Fayemi on Tuesday told a mammoth crowd gathering at the foundation laying ceremony that the Chinese construction firm had promised to complete the urban renewal program within 18 months.

"The center, when completed, will have a museum, mall, an ultra- modern event center, amphi-theater, state-of-the-art library. It is expected to attract international and global attention which should invariably ignite socio-economic activities in the state. It will serve other purposes like employment and income generation for the users, " he said.

The governor said he was impressed with the records of the Tianjin Yuyang Construction Company when he visited its home base in China recently. The award-winning firm parades experienced and committed workers who will make the new edifice a toast of others across the West African country, according to the governor.

He said apart from being tipped as a cynosure of all eyes when completed, the world class Civic Center and museum will also create more than 800 job opportunities in the state.

"I have seen the extensive work the company has undertaken in Tianjin and around China. I have been impressed with the diligence, with the hard work and with their eagerness to really come onboard this initiative," the governor added.

The modern project is to erect on the site of the Ado-Ekiti prisons, which were constructed in 1922 and demolished six months ago.

The governor said the Civic Center with its aesthetic features would affect the lives of the people positively.

Situated along the road to the State House, the Civic Center, when completed, is expected to have entertainment and relaxation facilities, as well as a link bridge that will aid the easy access of its users.

On his own part, the manager of foreign branches for the Chinese firm, Hu Fang, said having handled similar projects in the past with several awards to show for it, Tianjin Yuyang will once again prove its mettle to the people of Ekiti State and the world at large.

"For the people of Ekiti State, this is a big project and we shall do our best to ensure that the confidence they have reposed in us is not regretted. Our company is a reputable one and projects like this can not give us any challenge. Within 18 months, we shall complete the project," he added.

The Tianjin Yuyang Construction Company is considered one of China's first grade qualification enterprises for housing and architectural projects across the globe.
