A Congolese opposition leader Joseph Olenga Nkoy who is the chairman of the New Forces for Unity and Solidarity (FONUS), on Wednesday opposed the idea of deploying an international neutral force along the border between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) and Rwanda.

While addressing the press in Kinshasa, Nkoy vowed that "such a force will not enter into the country."

"DR Congo is not a dustbin where we throw any military force," he said and also added that he will mobilize all the population in the eastern parts of the country to ensure that such a force is not deployed in the region.

He warned that the presence of such a force risks plunging the country into new armed conflicts with other countries, because "their soldiers will not accept to leave DR Congo once they discover the existence of minerals in the Congolese underground."

The FONUS leader said that the United Nations Mission for Stabilization of Congo (MONUSCO) is already a military force in which several countries are taking part, and it should be in a position to play the role of an international neutral force if its mandate is modified.
