A 56-year-old official with the Panyu urban management bureau in Guangzhou, capital of South China's Guangdong Province, whose family owns 21 properties, has been suspended from his job while an investigation into his holdings continues, Guo Xuanyu, deputy Party secretary of the Panyu district commission for displinary inspection, said Thursday.

Cai Bin's property realm was exposed by a netizen in an online posting saying that Cai and his family own 18 apartments in the city's Panyu district, and three in Nansha district.

The netizen further backed up his claim by posting details of the deeds to the apartments from the city's online property platform.

Cai was suspended following an initial investigation.

Gao said that the commission will severely punish the official if any infraction is found linking his accumulation of wealth to his job, adding that the result will be released immediately.

Cai only reported two properties during the compulsory disclosure of government officials' assets.
