Singapore airport passenger traffic up 4.8 pct in Sept.

The passenger movements at Singapore's Changi Airport rose 4.8 percent on year in September, slower than the surge of 10.9 percent annually in August, Changi Airport Group released on Friday.

The passenger traffic stood at 4 million in September, while the air traffic movements for the month also saw an annual growth of 4.0 percent to 26,500 landings and takeoffs. For the first nine months, Changi Airport registered 37.6 million passenger movements, up 9.9 percent on year, the company's air traffic statistics showed.

The airport said in September, traffic to and from the Middle East and Southwest Pacific registered double-digit growth, while the growth rates of its two largest makets of Southeast and Northeast Asia was in the low single digits.

The cargo sector was still weak in September, with 153,700 tons of shipments handled, down 0.4 percent year on year. But the monthly data was higher than the 146,400 tons in August.

According to the press release, there are 100 airlines operating more than 6,300 weekly flights at Changi Airport until October 1.

Its connectivity was improved by new links to Australia's Gold Coast, Bhutan's Paro, Malaysia's Kota Bahru and China's Taiyuan.
