Seventeen students from Shanghai International Studies University will visit the US between October 27 and November 13 to report on this year's US presidential election.

Participants were selected from 200 candidates from the school's College of Media and Communications, based on academic performance, language skills and news topics. Divided into four teams, the budding journalists will send back reports in print and video in Chinese and English.

During their stay, students will cover the election and people's daily lives in Washington, DC, Pennsylvania and New York with the help of 13 other students based in Shanghai.

This is the second time the school has sent students to report on the US election. Four years ago, six students made the inaugural trip to cover the presidential race.

"In the future, we hope to send more students to more countries to cover important events," Zhu Ye, deputy director of the College of Media and Communications, also a leader of the reporting group, told the Global Times.

Zhu added that students will cover topics that college students in China care about most, such as how college students in the US participated in the election and what they think about Sino-US relations.
