A total of 67 students at Taishan University, Shandong Province, who registered for driving lessons during the National Day holiday were swindled out of 2,600 yuan ($412.19) each by someone claiming to be the headmaster of a driving school.

Leaflets circulated the campus advertising a special holiday group rate of 2,600 yuan per person for groups of six.

A student surnamed Zhu registered with five classmates through an "agent," a student at the same university who was also cheated by the ruse.

Zhu was given a receipt and a letter with a stamp claiming to be from the Taitong Drivers Training School. However, the headmaster later disappeared, and the Taitong Drivers Training School said that no such person existed.
