Education reform conducted by Sanya College of Hainan University, funded by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, is proved to be a huge success as graduates from this college are in hot pursuit and cherished as "darlings" for the development of the Hainan International Tourism Island program.

Recently, the college as a subsidiary of Hainan University established 7 years ago has been renamed as Sanya College, symbolizing its transformation into an independent college offering undergraduate programs.

Sanya College, covering an area of 3000 mu (2,000,000 m²), is a land of picturesque beauties.

Wandering around the campus, one cannot help but being impressed by its distinctive favorable geographic location. Meanwhile, one might wonder whether there is a success formula for non-governmental education in China.

Sanya College, as the oldest and the biggest comprehensive university set up in Sanya City, has joined with the local government in an effort to map out educational development orientation since its foundation. A philosophy of "the purpose for students to step onto the campus is to better equip them for stepping into society in the future" is established to better cater to the local economic conditions and demands. Multiple subjects and special majors are tailored to the development requirements of Hainan Island. After 7 years' exploration and practice, a disciplinary matrix comprising 8 subjects and 56 majors has been developed, and it has established partnerships with more than 50 universities at home and abroad.

According to Lu Dan, president of Snaya College, they have introduced a distinctive management system to facilitate the College in forging ahead in a more effective manner. To date, the College has produced nearly 8,000 graduates, half of whom have been recruited by companies in related industries in Hainan Province.
