A Japan-based US Navy seaman was found dead, bleeding from the head, on the platform of a railway station in Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture in southwestern Japan early Sunday, Kyodo News reported.

Samuel Lewis Stiles , the 25-year-old Petty Officer First Class of the US Navy base in Sasebo appears to have climbed onto the roof of a stationary train and then fallen off after being electrocuted by the overhead power line, the report quoted Nagasaki police as saying.

Before climbing on the roof of the train, the sailor may have drunk a lot of alocol as five empty canns of alcoholic beverages were recovered from the train tracks at the JR Kyushu Railway Haiki Station, the police said.

The police believes that Stiles may have breached the 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew on US military servicemen in Japan that was imposed earlier this month in the aftermath of the alleged rape by two US servicemen of a Japanese woman in Okinawa. When JR officials patrolled the station premises at around half past midnight, they had detected no anomaly.
