Eight members of the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) were killed in operations in southeastern Turkey, private Dogan news agency reported Monday.

Turkish security forces launched the operations to fight against a group of PKK militants in Sirnak province, killing eight PKK members, according to the report.

A group of PKK militants on Sunday attacked the building of Sirnak provincial government, a police department and a police checkpoint with automatic rifles and rocket-propelled grenades ( RPG) in downtown of Sirnak, leaving one police officer dead and two others injured.

The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union, took up arms in 1984 in an attempt to create an ethnic homeland in southeastern Turkey.
