All of the students of a Chongming Island primary school suspected of suffering food poisoning have been sent home after receiving treatment at a local hospital, a local official told the Global Times Thursday.

Authorities suspect that the 62 students from Chongming Baozhen No.2 primary school contracted food poisoning from eating at the school cafeteria.

The Shanghai Food and Drug Administration has collected samples from food, beverages and dish ware in the cafeteria, said a press officer from the Chongming County government, who refused to provide her full name. It will take one week to get the results of the lab tests.

The students started to experience symptom of food poisoning, including vomiting and diarrhea, on Tuesday night. Police have closed the cafeteria during the investigation.

The school's medical insurance will cover the student's medical expenses, the press officer said.
