Deputies to the on-going fourth session of the Vietnamese 13th National Assembly (NA) have approved goals for the country's socio-economic development for 2013 in capital Hanoi on Thursday.

With 91 percent approval, the Resolution on socio-economic development in 2013 defined Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate of 5.5 percent, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) growth to be kept at 8 percent, budget overspending to stay at 4.8 percent of the total GDP, trade deficit at 8 percent, total export turnover to rise 10 percent over 2012, unemployment rate in urban areas to less than 4 percent and about 1.6 million new jobs to be created, local VnExpress online reported.

Along with these goals, NA deputies confirmed their determination to implement three strategic breakthroughs in lines with renewing the growth model and economic restructuring in 2013.

They include improving human resources quality and perfecting the market economy mechanism, improving competitiveness and business environment; effectively performing the country's medium- term investment plan for 2013-2015; restructuring production with priority given to high value-added products, application of high technology, green technology, energy saving, and environmental protection.

During the session, NA deputies also reviewed implementation of the development goals in 2012, of which five out of 15 goals would be unlikely to be realized.

The one-month fourth session is scheduled to conclude on November 22.
