The 24-hour Tongchuan Road Aquatic Products Wholesale Market in Putuo district, one of the biggest seafood markets in the city, will be uprooted to make room for a large-scale commercial center, local media reported Thursday.

The planned commercial center, called the Zhenru Subcenter, will cover an area of 60,000 square meters, according to a report in Youth Daily. The area will comprise malls, office buildings and residential compounds.

The Zhenru Subcenter is the fourth satellite commercial center to be built away from Shanghai's main commercial areas around People's Square, Nanjing Road West and Lujiazui.

The others are in Xujiahui in Xuhui district, Wujiaochang in Yangpu district and Huamu in Pudong New Area, according to the Shanghai Municipal Planning and Land Resources Administration Bureau.

"Compared with the other subcenters, the Zhenru Subcenter benefits from convenient transportation options and an advantageous location," said an executive surnamed Zhou with the Integrated Coordination Department of the Zhenru Subcenter Development and Construction Investment Co Ltd.

The Tongchuan Road Aquatic Products Wholesale Market will move in phases to its new location in the Taopu neighborhood of Putuo District, though Zhou didn't give an exact timetable.
