Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) and air forces will start a massive four-day joint air defense drill in the eastern parts of the country on Monday, Tehran Times daily reported Sunday.

Commander of Iranian Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base, Farzad Esmaili, told reporters Thursday that the maneuver dubbed "Modafe' an-e Aseman-e Velayat 4" or "The Defenders of the Sky of Guardianship" will be held with the participation of units from the IRGC and air forces, said Press TV.

Esmaili said that the military exercise will be carried out in an area of more than 850,000 square km, accounting for half of the country, in which a large number of soldiers will participate, according to Tehran Times.

The drill will display the full strength and preparedness of Iran's air defense forces to defend the Islamic republic's eastern borders, said the Iranian commander.

Various long-range radars and electronic surveillance systems will be tested during the drill, the Iranian commander was quoted as saying by Press TV.

He added that the units will practice modern tactics in response to the recent threats from certain parts of the world.
