A woman surnamed Huang was scratched by a rat when she was out to dinner with her friends at a vegetarian restaurant in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, on November 3. While other restaurants would hasten to exterminate the vermin, the management is unwilling to kill the rat because the original intention of the vegetarian restaurant was to be kind to animals.

On the November 3, Huang and her friends entered Yixin vegetarian restaurant located in the Tianhe district of Guangzhou. While they were waiting for their food, a rat suddenly fell from the ceiling and scratched Huang, drawing blood.

"It was as big as my hands, and I saw another big rat crawling in the ceiling," said Huang. After the accident, she hastily went to the hospital for a vaccine injection.

"I was very surprised when I heard about the incident," the manager of the restaurant, surnamed Chai, said.

" I sent two waiters to check the ceiling, and they didn't find the rats' nest." She has apologized to the victim and said that the restaurant would cover all of Huang's medical fees.

"But our restaurant is vegetarian and our aim is not to kill animals," Chai said. "One more vegetarian, one more animal saved."

The restaurant said they didn't want to solve the problem by killing the creature.
