Three people were injured Tuesday afternoon after a taxi ran over a fire hydrant and crashed into a tree in Xuhui district while trying to avoid a moped, local media reported.

A preliminary police investigation found that the moped had been driving the wrong way on the street before the crash occurred, according to a report on the news website Xinmin.cn. The crash happened at the intersection of Zhaojiabang and Taiyuan roads.

The moped driver suffered a head injury that wasn't life threatening. The taxi driver and his female passenger had minor injuries. The broken fire hydrant flooded the nearby roads, which caused traffic to back up for a short time.
