A member of the Southeast Asian regional terrorist network Jemaah Islamiah (JI) was killed in Thursday's fire fight with security forces in southern Philippines, army official said Friday.

Capt. Alberto Caber, spokesman of the Army's 1st Infantry Division, said Friday that Ustadz Sanusi, alias Ishak, was killed in Thursday night's clash at Salam village in Marawi city. He said Sanusi is an Indonesian national and an "international terrorist with cases of murder, arson, robbery, intimidation against person. "

Acting on a warrant issued by a Sarangani Judge Oscar Noel, soldiers and policemen swooped down at Salam village to arrest Sanusi and six other JI men. Sanusi was cornered and sustained a gunshot wound during the commotion that ensued. The rest eluded arrest.

Sanusi was brought to the Amai Pakpak Hospital in Marawi City but died later.

Caber declined to give further details on the operation and on the suspects, saying President Aquino may make an announcement later on the case.
