Global sales of Samsung Electronics' Galaxy Note 2 topped the 5-million mark only two months after its debut in late September, breaching the level at a faster pace than its predecessor, the company said on Sunday.

Samsung has shipped more than 5 million units of the 5.5-inch Galaxy Note 2, called phablet or a hybrid of smartphone and tablet PC, since its launch in Seoul on Sept. 29.

The sales growth was more than two times faster than its previous model Galaxy Note, of which sales breached the 5-million mark in five months since its rollout.

Samsung said the Galaxy Note 2 has been sold in various regions across the globe, including Asia, Europe, North America, Latin America and Africa. It was different from its predecessor Galaxy Note that was sold mainly in Seoul.

The Galaxy Note 2, which opened a new chapter of smartphone devices, came with a 5.5-inch HD Super AMOLED display, the biggest display in smartphone market. It was powered by 4.1 Jelly Bean, the latest version of Android operating system, featuring a 1.6 GHz Quad-Core processor.
