A bomb exploded Monday morning in the southern Philippine province of Maguindanao, injuring a member of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighter (BIFF), a senior military official said.

According to Col. Prudencio Asto, spokesman for the 6th Infantry Division, BIFF Leader Mohaiden Animbangan was hit by an improvised bomb while traversing the NIA irrigation canal at Lower Salvo village in Datu Saudi Ampatuan town. Mohaiden was on his way to attend a thanksgiving celebration in nearby Datu Unsay town.
