A man was sentenced to six months of detention with a half year reprieve for slapping and biting a police officer, Xuhui District People's Court said Monday.

On July 10, the defendant, a manger at a decoration company whom the court called Hao, had gone out to a banquet with clients and gotten drunk. After the banquet, he discovered that his wallet had disappeared and called the police.

When a police officer surnamed Ye arrived, he tried talking to Hao, who had grown increasingly agitated. Hao attacked the officer. He slapped and bit Ye's face, forcing him to call for backup. The other officer, along with a nearby security guard, helped subdue Hao.

Hao was charged with disrupting public service.
