The State Council, China's Cabinet, on Thursday conferred the posthumous title of "Heroic Model in the Aviation Industry" upon Luo Yang, head of production of China's new J-15 fighter jet.

Luo died of a heart attack brought on by overworking on Nov. 25, after observing aircraft carrier landing tests that featured the jet.

Luo had devoted himself to aircraft design, research and production for 30 years, contributing all his wisdom and efforts to China's aviation industry, according to a statement from the State Council.

The statement said the landing tests marked a historical breakthrough for China's national defense build-up and they bear milestone significance.

The State Council urged the nation to learn from Luo's spirits of selfless contribution and firm pursuit of excellence at work, and make unremitting efforts to realize the goals set forth at the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Luo died at the age of 51. He was chairman and general manager of Shenyang Aircraft Corp. and headed the manufacturing and production phase of the J-15 fighter jet.

He has also been awarded other posthumous titles by central authorities and aviation industries, including "National Outstanding CPC Member" and "Model Worker of State-owned Enterprises."
