Myanmar's National Human Rights Commission has vowed to enhance public awareness by working together with regional National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) for the promotion and protection of human rights in the regions.

In a statement issued Monday, the commission stressed the needs to lay out its plan for the future, embarking in 2013 on a long- term project to translate important human rights materials into Myanmar.

To implement its mandate more effectively, the commission has drafted the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission Law in collaboration with human rights institutions and it has been submitted to the president.

Noting that the commission has examined most of the over 3,000 complaints received from September 2011 until the end of November 2012.

The commission has made several fruitful appeals to the president for the release of the country's prisoners including prisoners of conscience.

The commission is gratified that some of those released are currently playing an important role in the country's democratization process.

On the promotion of human rights, Myanmar has hosted several workshops in cooperation with the UN agencies and other institutions specialized in human rights education.

The commission, formed in September 2011, claimed itself as the fifth national human rights institution in ASEAN which has enhanced image of the country.
