Philippine, US military to sign pacts on terrorism, disaster response

Top military leaders from the US and the Philippines will meet here Thursday to discuss security issues and sign five agreements relating to the fight against terrorism and disaster response.

Philippine Armed Forces Spokesman Col. Arnulfo Marcelo Burgos said Wednesday that US Pacific Command Chief Adm. Samuel Locklear and Philippine Armed Forces Chief Gen. Jessie Dellosa will hold meeting at the military's general headquarters in Camp Aguinaldo.

"(They) will reaffirm their commitment to the strategic partnership between the two countries' armed forces," Burgos said in a briefing.

Col. Nilo Perfecto, chief of the international affairs division in the Armed Forces, said Locklear and Dellosa will sign five documents on various issues.

These issues include changing the composition of the Mutual Defense Board, technology transfer and the creation of counter- terrorism working group and humanitarian and disaster response working group.
