A doctor who won third place in a competition on basic skills of minimally invasive surgery held by the Chinese Medical Doctor Association in Beijing credited his experience in a video game for his success, the Wuhan Evening Post reported on Sunday.

Jiang Bin, 31, is a surgeon at the Third Hospital of Wuhan, Hubei Province. While in school, Jiang played a lot of Counter-Strike (CS), eventually mastering the game. After graduation, he became a surgeon and found that performing surgery had similar demands to the game.

"The skills I got from CS really helped me a lot," Jiang said. "CS and minimally invasive surgery are similar. Both of them require your hands to operate quickly and accurately."

He said he was very nervous about the competition but that the skills he acquired from playing CS gave him a leg up.

Jiang won third place, and was also the youngest doctor to participate in the contest.
