Golfer De Jonge awarded Zimbabwe sportsperson of the year

Zimbabwe has honored the sportspersons of the year 2012, with golfer Brendon De Jonge scooping the 2012 sportsperson of the year award and Olympic gold medalist Kirsty Coventry being adjudged the sportswoman of the year.

Other categories include the junior sportsperson Frazer James- Mackenzie, junior sportswoman triathlete Lolo Brown, sportsman with a disability won by wheelchair tennis player Nyasha Mharakurwa as well as the sportswoman with a disability award won by Margaret Bangajena from wheelchair racing.

Rugby Sevens coach, Gilbert Nyamutsamba was the coach of the year while Rick Fulton won the technical official of the year award.

The Rugby Sevens team, the cheetahs emerged the best team for 2012 and the Zimbabwe Handball Federation won the sports development award.

Mbada Diamonds and Marange Resources got a special acknowledgement award for the role in supporting sport in the country.

The annual sports awards recognize and reward good performances by sportspeople and associations as well as celebrate sports achievements.
