The Russian Yamal-402 telecommunications satellite has reached its planned orbit following a series of adjustment operations, its operating company said Saturday.
"The fourth and final orbit adjustment ended in success. The Yamal-402 communications satellite was taken to its geostationary orbit at the altitude of 36,000 km," a spokesperson with Gazprom Space Systems told local media.
Russian federal space agency Roscosmos said earlier this week the Yamal-402 was lifted from a transitional orbit with two consequent impulses.
Experts had to use the satellite's own engines and fuel reserves to place it into its planned orbit after a malfunction of the Briz-M booster during the final stage of the launch saw it fire for only five minutes instead of nine.
Yamal-402 is planned to be operational on Jan. 8. The telecommunications satellite is equipped with 46 Ku-band transponders providing coverage over most of Russia, the Commonwealth of Independent States, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
