"Beijing women today still stick to the traditional concept that marriage takes priority in their lives."

Maple Women's psychological counseling center in Beijing recently revealed the result of its extensive research into the mental state and attitudes of women in Beijing based on over 120,000 phone calls their hotlines have fielded. They found that overall women's attitudes toward life had largely remained unchanged over the past two decades, since marriage and relationships were overwhelmingly their major issues of concern, with only a small number calling in for advice about their careers. The center concluded that women today still tend to consider themselves as the weaker party in marriages or relationships, while the old concept that a good husband is more important than having a good job still prevails.
