The Shanghai South Long-Distance Bus Station will start selling tickets Friday for the upcoming New Year's holiday.

The bus station, one of the city's largest, predicted that the number of passengers it serves this year will rise 10 percent year-on-year to 220,000.

It expected peak daily passenger volume to hit 30,000 on December 31 and January 1, up 40 percent from a normal day.
