Iraqi President Jalal Talabani will be transferred to Germany for further treatment after being admitted to a Baghdad hospital two days ago due to stroke, an official Kurdish website reported on Wednesday.

"The president's health condition is stable and he will be transferred tomorrow, Thursday, to a hospital in Germany," the official website of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), a major Kurdish party headed by Talabani, quoted the leader of Talabani's medical team Najm al-Din Karim as saying.

Karim, an Iraqi professor of neurology, also said that a specialized German medial team arrived in Baghdad earlier in the day and carried out medical tests to Talabani before they decided to transfer the president to a hospital in Germany in coordination with the Iraqi medical team.

"The German medical team confirmed that the president's health is now stable and can travel out of the country," Karim added.

Earlier, Karim said that "Talabani is in a good condition and his health is improving continuously."

A medical source told Xinhua Tuesday that Talabani was admitted to Madinat al-Tib hospital in Baghdad Monday night and was unconscious and in critical condition due to stroke.

An earlier statement by Talabani's office confirmed that Talabani has been admitted to a hospital in Baghdad "because of fatigue and tiredness."

Talabani, 79, has been suffering various health problems in recent years.
