Turkey said Wednesday Israel's new announcements of settlement construction is provocative despite international warnings, a Turkish official statement said.

"We strongly condemn Israel, which undermines international law with its illegal settlement activities that deliberately destroy grounds for enduring and fair peace," said the statement released by the Turkish foreign ministry.

"Israel must understand that it won't achieve its goals of changing the historical, cultural and religious nature of the Palestinian territories by unilateral moves of unceasing settlement activities and other policies that are in violation of international law," the statement added.

Turkey called on Israel to live up to its obligations under international law for lasting peace in the Middle East and immediately halt all activities that harm the grounds for peace.

"Ankara also urged the international community to take " necessary measures" against what it called Israel's "unilateral illegal activities," according to the ministry.

"Turkey will continue to stand by Palestinian people against Israel's illegal policies, the statement noted.
