South Korea's dependence on rare earths imported from China lessened in 2012 as the country diversified its import nations amid the relatively high prices of Chinese commodities, data from the Korea Customs Service (KCS) showed Thursday.

From January through November, the proportion of rare earths imported from China accounted for 54.4 percent of the total, down from 78.4 percent in the previous year, according to the KCS. The smaller portion was attributable to the relatively high prices of rare earths imported from China.
