A local court has ordered a divorced woman to pay 6,000 yuan ($962) in compensation to her ex-husband's colleague for falsely accusing the pair online of having an affair, Baoshan District People's Court said Tuesday.

In early September, the woman's ex-husband and his co-worker sued Zhu for libel, demanding 13,000 yuan in compensation, including their legal fees and other costs, according to a press release from the court. The ex-husband later withdrew his complaint before the court made its judgment.

On July 31 and August 1, the defendant, whom the court called Zhu, accused her husband of having an affair with the colleague in separate posts on Sina Weibo and the social network Kaixin001.com. Zhu then forwarded the posts to her husband's colleagues, supervisors and friends.

The posts received many comments, especially from one particular microblog account that used a picture of Zhu's son as its icon.

In court, Zhu argued that someone had hijacked her account on the social network, which used her real name. She also denied that she had registered two microblog accounts so she could anonymously comment on her own posts.

The court ruled that the posts had damaged the plaintiff's reputation. It also determined that it was Zhu who wrote the posts because her social network account was password protected and their content matched her own opinions.
