French Foreign Minister Luarent Fabius on Monday urged Central African Republic officials and rebels to launch swift talks to stop heavy fighting and forge a coalition government.

In a statement posted on the ministry's website, France's top diplomat pointed out that talks "is a priority more that ever to end hositilities."

"... I called the Central African authorities to refrain, in the capital of any action contrary to the spirit of dialogue and peace ... and rebel groups to ensure the safety of people in areas that they control," Fabius added.

On Sunday, Central African Republic President Francois Bozize agreed to hold unconditional talks with the leaders of a rebellion that's threatening to unseat him.

Seleka fighters, who seized five regional capitals in the centre and north of the African country, protested the government's unfulfilled pledges of insurgents' social integration in the framework of 2007 and 2011 peace pacts.

France sent 180 additional soldiers to its former colony where 420 national servicemen were deployed in the country for peace mission.
