Myanmar president makes new year speech to nation

Myanmar President U Thein Sein Tuesday made the first ever new year radio speech to the nation, calling on the country's people to join hands with the government in the reform process.

He said he puts hope on the reform plan which is underway in accordance with "Economic and Social Reform Framework" to enable each and every citizen to enjoy the fruitful results of general reform upcoming years.

Thein Sein said "Popular expectations have soared as reform in the previous year brought about political development."

Noting that there is gap between demand of the people and capacity of the government, he expressed the belief that the government's efforts are bound to narrow it.

He stressed the utmost importance that the success of Myanmar's democratic transition lies on mutual trust between the government and the people, calling for striving for developing transparent communication channel to improve the communication between the government and the people.

Pointing out that Myanmar society was once closed and isolated, he emphasized the need to carry out reform in many aspects, urging people to work hard in the reform period, while aspiring to the best.

Agreeing to the fact that people have the right to express their desire for hope, he also stressed that the entire society is to shape the promising future through ongoing reform process.

Citing that the world nations were amazed at Myanmar's impressive political progress in 2012, Thein Sein assumed that the government has laid together a foundation of political system needed for ensuring better socioeconomic status on daily basis of the society.

He wanted people to share his perspective that if each and every citizen works together with united efforts like Myanmar once made during the time of independence struggle, it will overcome challenges of change the country is facing.
