Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast reiterated Tuesday that Iran is against any foreign intervention in Syria's affairs.

Referring to his recent visit to Turkey, Mehmanparast emphasized Iran's position against any foreign intervention in the Arab state and any foreign decision for the Syrians.

Talking to reporters in his weekly briefing, he said that in order for the reforms in Syria to be implemented democratically, first of all the conflicts should be stopped and national dialogue should be started and then the transition government can be formed to decide on the constitution, parliament and presidential elections.

It would be a "wrong" policy if the Western countries recognize the dissident groups or "terrorist measures" in any forms, he said, adding that such a policy may also inflict other regional countries.

Iran is the major regional ally of the Syrian government in its conflict with the armed opposition groups.

Syria has been in unrest for over 22 months, leaving hundreds of thousands dead or injured.
