Myanmar President U Thein Sein stressed on Friday the need for each and every citizen to have their hands in nation building endeavors for ensuring peace and stability with sense of duty.

"Only when the country sees peace and stability, can a modern, developed country be built," Thein Sein said in his message on the occasion of Myanmar's 65th Independence Day which falls on Friday.

Noting that the common desire of all Myanmar people is peace and stability, rule of law and development, he emphasized that all citizens' unity and law-abiding practices are of special importance not only for ensuring peace and stability and the rule of law but also reaching eternal peace.

Pointing that human resources development is more important than natural resources, he stressed the need to nurture youths to become qualified human resources and education standard needs to be promoted as well for perpetuation of independence and sovereignty.

He attributed Myanmar's lagging far behind some neighboring countries in development to the disunity between leaders and the people and prolonged armed conflicts in striving for the rehabilitation of the country after regaining independence.

He reiterated call for safeguarding the union, national solidarity and sovereignty.

On Friday morning, a national flag hoisting and saluting ceremony was also held in the new capital of Nay Phi Taw, attended by Vice President Sai Mauk Kham.
