Travelers rage against Kunming airport after massive flight delays

Tempers flared over inept services provided by Kunming’s new Changshui airport after dense fog on January 4 resulted in over 400 canceled flights and stranded thousands of travelers.

Angry travelers destroyed check-in counters and intense arguments broke out with airport employees after travelers remained stuck in the poorly-heated airport, some for as long as 48 hours, without being provided a place to sleep.

Widespread complaints about the newly built 33.5-billion yuan airport intensified after ground service employees left their already understaffed posts after conflicts erupted.

@水水的小法师: Destroying airport property is definitely wrong and should be punished. However, the passengers have a reason to be angry if the airport does not explain why they have been delayed. And of course passengers would get angrier when employees started leaving after conflicts broke out. Both the passengers’ moral standards and airport service need to be improved.

@zeng浪迹天涯: Why does the Changshui airport always have fog but not the Wujiaba airport in Kunming? Didn’t they check the climate and weather history at Changshui before building?

@年轻的梅耶:
The passengers had no other choice but to protect their rights through violence. Businesses care too much about profits and ignore their responsibilities. They need to learn some lessons and finally change their attitude.

@我的眼角有翔滑落:
The airlines should compensate the passengers and those who destroyed property should be punished according to the law. The harmonious and stable development of a society depends on law rather than tempers.
