The Mongolian government said it has decided to set up a system to regulate Internet commenting.

The Information Technology, Postal, Telecommunication Authority has been instructed to introduce relevant software and technical solutions, according to a government press release about Saturday's cabinet meeting.

In addition, the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority is tasked with developing requirements for news websites and the issuance of domain names.

The new measures, according to the press release, will allow authorities to investigate any comment of criminal nature at the request of relevant parties and conduct law enforcement activities.

The database of the National Registration Authority and that of cell phone users will be used to verify information about Internet users, but secrecy and privacy regulations will also be applied.

Currently, netizens can write anything on Mongolian language websites. With the cyberspace becoming the main source of news and information in Mongolian society, problems like online insults and threats have increased.
