Almost two weeks have passed since a new version of China's driving test was unveiled. Before the revisions, the section on general driving knowledge and traffic rules was the easiest, and few people found it difficult. However, gone are the days of an easy ride in this part of the test. In fact, the updated section is so difficult that as of Monday, only four out of 106 test takers in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, had passed the section on traffic rules. In Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, only one in 10 who took the test passed it. Chinese people are not easily befuddled by exams. It might not be a stretch to say that the previous version of the exam wasn't helping keep bad drivers off the road, considering the free-wheeling attitude exhibited on many of China's roads. Hopefully, the increase in difficulty will help make drivers pay more attention to traffic rules in the future.
